If I’ve caught onto one thing during my time here in San Francisco, its that this city runs on good coffee. San Francisco streets are crammed with some of the best hole in the wall food and coffee shops. The city is also known for a few particular coffee spots that offer some of the highest quality classic espresso drinks, such as Blue Bottle, Four Barrel Coffee Roasters, and Reveille Coffee, to name a few. Some spots attract customers from all over the bay and are popular for their eye-catching latte art and fun drinks like Home Cafe sf. In this post I’ve also included one of my favorite tea cafes — Asha Tea House — where you can find some of the highest quality matcha for all you matcha lovers out there. They also have a beautiful selection of white, black, green and herbal tea blends.

I wanted to feature  these five cafe’s for you guys in case you’re ever in the city and looking for a beautiful spot for some people watching and a delicious pick-me-up, whatever your vibe!

One of San Francisco’s most beloved coffee shops. Before I moved to the bay I had heard of Blue Bottle Coffee and was so happy to finally taste it for myself. Located on the corner of Sansome and Bush, this gorgeous cafe mostly attracts folks from the business crowd rushing through the busy streets of the Financial District. Personally, I’ve discovered it is one of the best places to sit and enjoy some people watching through the eye-catchingly large and pretty windows.

Four Barrel coffee is located in the San Francisco Mission District. Its rustic atmosphere with high ceilings and wooden countertops and beams creates a unique atmosphere for an afternoon pick me up. I personally love their unique clay cups and saucers. Classic espresso drinks and beautiful latte art; the perfect place to grab a coffee and stroll from shop to shop along Valencia street.

My matcha go-to. They have various matcha drinks but I usually will opt for a classic matcha latte. For those of you who are big tea drinkers, this will be your go-to spot. They have high quality herbal, white, green and black teas as well as boba drinks for any of you boba lovers! Asha is located right in the heart of the Financial District on Kearny and Market. It’s the perfect little spot to cozy up with a hot tea on an overcast SF day.

Home Cafe SF is famous for their colorful and fun drinks — their Nutella Latte, Cookie Monster Latte, and Lavender Latte to name a few. I got their Birthday Cake latte (pictured below) since it comes topped with sprinkles. Home’s location is a bit remote — Noriega St and 19th Ave — but that doesn’t stop people from coming from all over the bay area to see the beautiful latte art for themselves.

p.s. Try their toasts!

Nestled right in North Beach on Columbus Avenue you’ll find Reveille Coffee. Its a small but airy coffee shop with outdoor seating; note, the outdoor chairs and tables are, in fact, propped on a hill, so be slightly cautious. It is the perfect place to stop in and grab a cappuccino, then browse at City Lights Books just across the street — one of San Francisco’s oldest and most beloved bookstores.
